KAAP KOFFIE REFUGEE ROAST

KAAP KOFFIE REFUGEE ROAST

During winter ‘20 a group of undocumented African refugees were camping on parking lots in the Bijlmer. Inhuman story without a happy end. Café de Ceuvel and Kaap Koffie invited part of the group to stay in a gym in Noord.

We helped refugees finding their way in their asylum application, we offered them Dutch lessons, boxing and yoga classes and we started a mutual coffee project: Kaap Koffie Refugee Roast. Our African friends took care of the production, the packaging and paddled the coffee throughout Amsterdam. Okay, the distribution by bike never really took off, but we did sell some serious kilo's from the Refugee Store. The profits were donated to Stichting Mandela Kids (the ngo taking care of undocumented refugees).

Definitely most credits go to Huib Koel and Esther Weller and all the other wonderful staff of Café de Ceuvel.
